Ripping Service

'Ripping' is the name given to the process of extracting the music from an audio CD (or DVD), and converting it into a music file so that it can be played back on a computer.

It's one of the major costs in switching from a CD audio system to a computer based audio system, simply because of the time you'll spend transferring all your existing music to MP3 files.

In any event, we'd strongly recommend that you rip your music to a lossless or uncompressed format, rather than straight to MP3 (or AAC, Apple's lossy compression format).  That's because when you compress to MP3, in exchange for a smaller file size, you'll throw away some of the music quality for good; and with hard disks being so cheap, we think that's just a false economy!

It's important too, to rip your music using a good quality CD reader and ripping software.  Many of the mainstream ripping programs simply don't bother checking that the audio data you're extracting, accurately reflects what was actually recorded on the CD.  They probably figure that since you're going to throw half the quality away by compressing to MP3, it doesn't really matter if  the rip wasn't perfect in the first place.

But it matters to us.  So if you want the best quality ripping around, but you don't want to spend weeks doing yourself and learning all the ins and outs, let us do it for you.  We'll arrange insured collection and delivery back to you in the format(s) of your choice, and of course, we're here to advise you every step of the way.

Our prices start from just 90p per CD plus carriage (maximum £25).
